Mantova

Promotion to Serie B in 1970/71 remains the highest point in Mantova's history, the only time the club reached Italian football's second tier as champions of its group. Two more recent titles, in Serie C in 2019/20 and again in 2023/24, came after the club had twice been forced to start over from nothing.

The first collapse came in 1994. A second followed in 2010, when Mantova Football Club was formed to carry the name forward. A third liquidation in 2017 produced the club that plays today, Mantova 1911, rebuilding once more from the lower divisions with the Serie C titles marking its return toward the level the city had known in the early 1970s.

The white and red kit dates to the 1950s, adopted in honour of a sponsor, Ozo, replacing the white and blue the club had worn before. I Virgiliani, a nickname recalling Virgil, who was born near Mantua, is the one still used most; Il Piccolo Brasile, Little Brazil, belongs to an earlier era of the club's football. Home games are played at the Stadio Danilo Martelli, known also as the Pata Stadium, which holds 14,884.

Maurizio Setti has held the club since the most recent refoundation, backing a side built again from Serie D upward. What Mantova 1911 carries into each new season is the same starting point the club has returned to more than once: a name founded in 1911, lost and reclaimed, playing under it again.
