Dino Manuzzi was the president who took a provincial club out of the lower divisions and into Serie A for the first time, in 1973, with Eugenio Bersellini on the bench. Three seasons later Cesena finished sixth in the top flight and qualified for the UEFA Cup — the highest the club has reached, before or since. The stadium carries Manuzzi's name.

What came before that was a merger. Two local sides, A.C. Cesena and A.S.

The seahorse appeared on the badge in 1975.

The 1990s brought money trouble and a slide to Serie C1.

Emanuele Giaccherini came through the youth system here. Alessandro Diamanti played for the club and later coached it.
