State Hydraulic Works put its name behind a basketball side in Ankara in 1960.

For decades DSİ stayed a feeder for talent rather than a trophy collector. Doğan Hakyemez came through the club in 1965 and became its General Coordinator, while Aydın Örs rose from the same ranks to lead the Turkish Basketball Federation.

The club only turned professional in 2011, when the ERA Group took it over and fielded the side as DSİ ERA, bringing in foreign players such as Kaspars Kambala and Lamar Karim. Winning the third-tier league in 2013 lifted DSİ into the second tier, and by 2014 Mamak Municipality had stepped in as a partner, renaming it Mamak Belediyesi Ankara DSİ. That backing carried the club into the top flight for the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons, its highest point on record, though a top-division title has never followed — the closest it came was a national under-18 championship back in 1980–81.

Home games are played at the DSİ Etlik Spor Salonu, a ground that holds just over a thousand people, in keeping with a club still built more on developing players than on filling seats.
