«Bianconeri»
A group of friends in Ascoli Piceno put a team together in June 2003 to keep the name of Valerio Ciabattoni in circulation. He had played in the youth ranks of the city's professional club and died in a road accident. They called the side Ciabbino, entered it in Terza Categoria, and started from there. The Ciabbino name lasted until 2018, when the club became Atletico Ascoli.
It has never had anything to do with US Ascoli Calcio 1898, the professional club that plays in yellow and red. Atletico plays in white and black, which is where the Bianconeri nickname comes from, and remains an independent amateur outfit. The Giordani family came into the running of the club in 2017.
The 2022/23 season is the one that moved the club. Atletico led Eccellenza Marche at the winter break and held on to finish top, which carried them up into Serie D. Derbies with Sambenedettese and Ancona came with the territory.
Home is the Stadio Don Mauro Bartolini, listed at 800 places.
Ciabattoni himself is still the person the club is built around. He could not have, the team did not exist while he was alive.
