Atlético Madrid II

Two Madrid amateur sides, CD Reyfra and CA Getafe, merged in 1963 to give Atlético Madrid a nursery for its own players, and the new club took the field that September under the Reyfra name before gradually taking on the parent club's identity. By 1970 it had become Atlético Madrileño, a name it carried for the next two decades before more than three decades as Atlético de Madrid B. On 1 July 2025 the club reverted to that original name, closing a loop that had run since the 1960s.

Wearing the same red-and-white stripes and blue shorts as the first team, and answering to the same nicknames — Colchoneros, Rojiblancos — the reserve side has never needed an identity of its own. What has set it apart is a ceiling written into Spanish football's rules: a filial club cannot rise above the level of its parent. That cost it a place in the top flight in 1998/99, when it finished second in Segunda División with nowhere to go, staying down while its rivals moved up. The Segunda División B title came three times, in 1989, 2001 and 2004, alongside a Tercera División title in 2017 and the Copa de la Liga de Segunda División in 1983.

For most of its history the side trained and played at Cerro del Espino, inside Atlético's Ciudad Deportiva. From the 2025/26 season it moved out to the Centro Deportivo Alcalá de Henares, a smaller ground holding 2,685, in the town east of the capital. The team now competes in Primera Federación, the third tier, with recent friendlies against Mirandés and Gimnástica Segoviana keeping it sharp between league rounds.
