Barbastro

Two seasons running, Barbastro have gone deep enough into the Copa del Rey to draw a name most of the province only sees on television. The league work is steadier: 13th in Group II of Segunda Federación in 2024-25.

Both of those promotions came out of a Tercera División title — the first in 1988-89, the second in 2004-05 — and both ended the same way, bottom of a twenty-team group in Segunda División B. Between and around them sit 44 seasons in the third tier, which is the truer measure of where this club lives.

Football in Barbastro dates from October 1934. The club as it now runs was reorganised in 1949, briefly under a different name, and the official reckoning starts there — 75 years marked in 2024, with the 1934 date kept alongside it.

Miguel Linares arrived for the 2006-07 push and left two years later with 46 goals in 73 matches; he went on to Oviedo and Elche in the Segunda.

The fixture that matters most is not the one an outsider would guess.
