In the second round of the Swiss Cup in 2007–08, Binningen drew FC Basel. A record 6,450 people came. Basel won 1–6.
Binningen had taken the Basler Cup in 2006–07 by beating SV Muttenz 2 6–1, and kept it the following spring with a 3–0 win over FC Pratteln. Four times before and after — the last in 2009–10 — the club reached the final and lost it. Patrick Liniger was player-manager across the second of the winning years.
Most of what the club is known for regionally happens away from those days. Boys leave for Basel and come back as names elsewhere: Oumar Kondé began here, went to Basel in 1994, and later played for Blackburn Rovers, SC Freiburg and the Swiss under-21s. Traffic runs the other way too. Peter Füri, capped by Switzerland, finished his playing career at Binningen between 1966 and 1968.
The league life is the fifth tier, the 2. Liga Interregional, reached in 1999 and again in 2013.
