Bulle

The one trophy in the FC Bulle cabinet came in 1990, in a friendly rather than a league campaign, when the club beat FC Baden on penalties to win the Tournoi de Bulle. It sits alone in the record books: no league title, no Coupe de Suisse, and the closest the club has come to the latter was the last 16, in 2019–20.

Founded in 1910, Bulle joined the Swiss football association two years later and settled at Stade de Bouleyres in 1949, where it still plays. The club spent its first six decades in regional football before working into the national pyramid, reaching Nationalliga A for two seasons from 1981 and again in 1992–93, each stay lasting a single year before relegation pulled it back down. A spell in the Challenge League followed in the mid-2000s, and since 2022 the side has played in the Promotion League, the third tier, arriving there by beating FC Wohlen and FC Tuggen in play-offs.

The fixture that still draws a crowd is against FC Fribourg, the cantonal capital's club. Bulle carries the old identity of the challenger — a town that rose against Fribourg's rule in 1781, a revolt still marked by a monument on the town square — and the derby, once played in front of up to 2,000 spectators through the 1970s and 1980s, has long stood for that rivalry between the two clubs and a third, SC Guin, whose leaders rarely found reason to cooperate.

Adrian Kunz spent two seasons at the club before Nationalliga B football, scoring 34 goals in 74 matches, then moved on to Young Boys and Werder Bremen and into the Swiss national side. Pierre-Albert Chapuisat, Switzerland's record scorer by the end of his playing career, took charge of Bulle from 1988 to 1990, guiding the side through the years it played in the first division.
