«Los Colegiales»
He inherited a club whose senior side has never been its main business. San José, known in Soria as Los Colegiales, has been going since 1978 and is best known locally for its youth football. It runs more than 20 teams, men's and women's, and its senior side has won no titles.
The ground has the better story. The Estadio San Juan is in Garray, about 5 km north of Soria, and holds around 1,500 people. CD Numancia played there until 1999, when they moved to the Estadio Nuevo Los Pajaritos. Since then a pitch that once hosted the city's best-known club has belonged to a side from the lower divisions.
San José's neighbours are close by. Soria CF were founded a year later, in 1979, and CD Calasanz de Soria play in the same regional competitions. Matches between the three are called "derbis sorianos", though no single fixture carries the name. The club shares its name with a Bolivian side and with a Soria volleyball club that won the Spanish league and cup in the 1990s. Neither is the football team in Garray.
San José now play in the Primera División Regional de Aficionados de Castilla y León, having spent time in the Tercera División in the past.
