Clachnacuddin

Merkinch sits where the River Ness runs into the Moray Firth, a close-built quarter of Inverness that has fielded its own football club since 1885, when Clachnacuddin took its name not from a founder or patron but from the old market stone that once stood on the High Street. The identity has held ever since: white shirts, black shorts, and a nickname — the Lilywhites — that needs no further explanation once the kit is on show.

Eighteen Highland League titles sit in the trophy room. The first came in 1894, the last in 2003, and none since. The North of Scotland Cup has gone to Merkinch more than twenty times, most recently in 2001, a competition the club has treated almost as its own since the 1890s.

Grant Street Park, holding 3,000, has been home throughout.

Wikipedia names Inverness Caledonian Thistle as the club's historic rival, though the two now play in different divisions and the fixture carries little of a derby's heat. That belongs instead to Inverness Athletic, whose meetings with Clach the local press still calls the Inverness derby.

The pattern has precedent — George MacLeod played for Clach before Luton Town signed him in 1955 — but the traffic now runs the other way, with experienced players arriving rather than leaving. Josh Meekings joined in 2024, Mark Ridgers in 2025, and Gary Warren spent the 2022–23 season at Grant Street Park, each coming off time at Caledonian Thistle and, in some cases, international duty, to see out their careers in Highland League football.
