New Douglas Park in Hamilton holds 6,018 in all-seated stands, and Clyde have played there only since 2022 — a return of sorts, since the club shared this ground with Hamilton Academical between 1991 and 1994 during an earlier stretch without a home of their own. The club still says it wants to get back to Glasgow one day.
That homelessness runs through most of Clyde's modern history. The club was formed in 1877 on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow's Barrowfield district, and stayed in the city for over a century — Barrowfield Park first, then Shawfield from 1898. Shawfield stopped being theirs in 1935, when the ground was sold to a greyhound-racing company and Clyde carried on as tenants there until 1986. After that came years of borrowed pitches: Firhill alongside Partick Thistle, then Douglas Park in Hamilton, then Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld from 1994 to 2022.
Partick Thistle is the closest thing Clyde have to a rival, a meeting sometimes framed as an alternative to the Old Firm derby between two of the city's smaller clubs. Off the pitch, 2003 and 2004 brought a debt crisis that came close to finishing the club altogether; a Company Voluntary Arrangement in 2005 kept it going and handed control to a supporters' trust. The following year Clyde beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup.
The three Scottish Cup wins that Clyde do have all sit inside one stretch, in 1939, 1955 and 1958, with two further final defeats either side. Brian Ahern holds the club's appearance record at 504 games across all competitions, while Dougie Wallace remains its top scorer with 209 goals. Pat Nevin came through Clyde's ranks before Chelsea and Everton, and Craig Brown managed the club to two Division Two titles before going on to coach Scotland.
Clyde have not featured in Scotland's top flight since 1975.
