Csm Targu Jiu

Târgu Jiu spent decades measuring its football by Pandurii. CSM Târgu Jiu picked up the thread in 2024, as the football arm of the city's multi-sport club.

The rebuild moved fast. In its first season, 2024/25, CSM won the Gorj county championship in Liga IV and earned promotion to Liga III. The same campaign brought the county round of the Cupa României, giving the newly formed side a league title and a cup in one go. In 2025/26 the club reached the third round of the national Cupa României, going out on penalties to SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea after a goalless draw.

Games are played at the Constantina Diță-Tomescu Stadium, which holds 12,518.

Football is one branch of a wider club. CSM Târgu Jiu's women's handball team, running since 2017, has done more on a national stage: a Cupa României final in 2022/23, lost to CSM București, followed by qualification for the EHF European League, then further Cupa României quarter-finals in 2024/25 and 2025/26.

For the football side, everything still traces back to that first year: a county league won, a cup won, and a promotion earned in the same season a new club replaced the one the city had lost.
