Dinamo Sokhumi's record belongs to the 1940s. The club won the Georgian SSR Cup in 1944, then added the league championship in 1947 and retained it in 1948 — the same year it lifted the cup again, the strongest season it has on record from its years in Sukhumi.
Founded in Sukhumi in 1927, the club spent decades in the Soviet Union's amateur competitions before winning its way into the First League in 1989, the highest level Dinamo has reached before or since.
The Georgian-Abkhaz war of 1992-1993 ended Dinamo's tenure in Sukhumi. The club re-formed in Tbilisi, where it has played since as a side of people displaced from Abkhazia, carrying a name that belongs to a city it no longer plays in. A separate club of the same name has represented Sukhumi itself since 2009, born of the same institutional split, and the two share nothing beyond it.
Dinamo now plays in blue and white in the Regionuli Liga, Georgia's fifth tier, and in the David Kipiani Cup. Home matches are at the Avaza stadium in Tbilisi. The ground holds 500.
