Dinamo St. Petersburg

Dynamo spent 2019 to 2021 playing amateur football in the Saint Petersburg championship before professional status returned, and since 2021 the club has competed in the Second League.

What began in 1922 as the team of the State Political Directorate, the GPU, was renamed Dynamo the following year and kept that name until 1990, then passed through Prometei-Dynamo, a second spell as plain Dynamo, Dynamo-Stroyimpuls and Dynamo SPb before settling back to the identity it carries now. White and light blue, the colours adopted at the first general meeting of the Dynamo sports society in Moscow on 8 October 1923, were chosen on Felix Dzerzhinsky's own instruction, meant to stand for the "bright and pure intentions" of the society's members.

Its best Soviet-era finishes in the top flight went no higher than fifth, in 1940, 1945, 1946 and 1952, with a runner-up placing in the unfinished 1941 championship and three semi-final appearances in the Soviet Cup. Locally the record reads differently: Dynamo has been champion of Saint Petersburg 29 times and has won the city cup on fourteen occasions. Three zonal Second Division titles followed, in 2001, 2009 and 2016/17. Home games are played at Kirovets, a ground on Perekopskaya Street with room for 3,000.
