«Sharks of the Red Sea»
Djibouti finished the group stage of the 2021 CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup without a single point, beaten 3-0 by Kenya and 2-0 by South Sudan. Among those sent out in that campaign was Sabri Ali, born in 2000, who went straight from the youth side into a senior debut the same year.
The team carries the nickname Sharks of the Red Sea, borrowed from the senior side, and shares its light blue and green colours, drawn from the national flag. It plays at the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Aptidon Stadium in Djibouti City, a 10,000-seat ground built with Chinese assistance in 1993.
No CECAFA or CAF U-23 title has come Djibouti's way yet.
