In the autumn of 2016 a fourth-tier side from a commune of a few thousand people on the western edge of Bucharest knocked out Metalul Reșița, then drew FC Voluntari — a top-flight club — in the second round of the Cupa României. Domnești won 5-3. The third round ended the run, but the scoreline stayed: eight goals against professional opposition, on a ground that holds 2,000.

The club exists at all because another one moved. Viscofil Popești-Leordeni had been playing in Liga III when the team was relocated across the county in 2010 and reorganised under a new name in Domnești, in Ilfov. No exact founding date survives, only the year and the fact of the move.

Virgil Andronache took charge for the Liga III seasons and the cup ties against professional sides, including FC Petrolul Ploiești. His son Luca came through the youth setup here between 2000 and 2019 before leaving for the Hagi academy and, later, Liga I — the one player the commune can point to who went the whole way.

League honours came later and closer to home: Liga IV Ilfov titles in 2019 and 2020, back to back. Against that, the 2018-19 cup draw was unkind — Rapid București in the first round, 0-3, and out.

Home is Stadionul Voința, in Domnești itself. There is no official website, no club page anywhere that stays current; what is known about the side is what other people have written down about it.

The record still turns on that relocation. A Liga III team was dismantled in Popești-Leordeni and rebuilt fifteen kilometres away, and everything the club has done since — the cup win over Voluntari, the two county titles, the boy who left for a bigger academy — happened to a team that had been somewhere else six years earlier.
