Patrik Haginge once played in Allsvenskan for Örebro SK and Djurgårdens IF; in 2023 he came back to Eker Örebro as head coach. It grew instead out of Eker parish, where a group of young people set up Ekers IF in 1933, long before Örebro's western districts took the shape they have now.
The name has changed twice since. In 1996 the club moved its operations to Mellringestaden and became Mellringe Eker IF; a 2005 merger with Vivalla-Lundby IF produced the current IF Eker Örebro. Through all of it the ground stayed local: Lundby IP holds 300 spectators, expandable to 1,000, but enough for a club that plays in blue and white.
2021 was the year both first teams peaked together. The men won ten league matches in a row on their way to the Division 4 title, while the women went through the entire series unbeaten to take the same championship — a double the club had not managed before. Three years later the men beat IFK Eskilstuna in a qualification tie and moved up to Division 2, where they play now, in Division 2 Södra Svealand, the fifth tier of Swedish football.
Behind the results are the Mellringe Ultras and Eker Tifo, the two supporters groups who follow a club still built largely on players who came up through it — Fanny Persson, capped at U15 level before moving into Damallsvenskan with KIF Örebro DFF, is one of the names Eker Örebro can point to. For now the task in front of the men's side is simple: hold their place in Division 2 and see how far the momentum from 2024 carries them.
