Graničar Đurđevac

When the men of the Đurđevac regiment stood watch along the old Military Frontier, the town took its footballing name from them: Graničar means border guard. The club that carries it was founded in 1919, and in 2019 it marked its centenary with players and coaches from across the decades gathering in Đurđevac for the occasion.

Graničar counts among the oldest clubs in the Podravina region. It enters the 2024/25 season in 3. HNL – North, the fourth tier of Croatian football, having gone up after winning the 1. ŽNL Koprivničko-križevačka in 2023/24 — a sixth-tier title the club had already lifted once before, in 2002/03.

Matches against NK Podravina from Ludbreg and NK Pitomača are treated much the same way locally. In the county cup, Graničar reached the semi-final in 2025/26 before Koprivnica saw them off on penalties, having gone out in the last 16 back in 2015/16 to Mladost Molve. Zoran Buinac, who built his playing career at other Croatian clubs, now manages the side.
