Grohn

SV Grohn head into the new season in the Bremen-Liga, the sixth tier of German football, after finishing third last term.

Home games are played at the Bezirkssportanlage Oeversberg, a ground with room for 500. Around the district the team is known as Die Husaren, the Hussars, and the black-and-white shirts still carry an old line the club uses to describe itself: "Ein Leben lang Schwarz-Weiß" — a life spent in black and white.

The club's furthest reach into German football's higher levels came in the 1943/44 season, when it played in the Gauliga Weser-Ems, then the top regional division in the country. Nothing since has matched that height, though 1987/88 stands out in the decades that followed: Grohn won the Landesliga Bremen that year, the best league finish in the club's own record books.

Few fixtures carry more weight locally than the games against SG Aumund-Vegesack, from the same stretch of Bremen-Nord — an Ortsderby with barely any distance to travel.

SV Grohn was founded in 1911, one of the oldest sports clubs in the Grohn district alongside the gymnastics club TV Grohn, which had already been meeting there since 1883.
