«Los Guimareños»
In 1983–84 the club won Group XII of the Tercera División. It went into that season's Copa del Rey already accustomed to the tournament, having qualified the year before, and reached the third round for the second time running. Both runs ended against top-flight sides, Celta de Vigo and Sporting de Gijón. The club entered the competition four times in the 1980s, the last two in 1984–85 and 1985–86.
The decade closed with a double in 1989–90: the Preferente Tenerife title and the Copa Heliodoro Rodríguez López, both in the same season.
The club's shape changed in 2009. Güímar's town council wanted local football pooled rather than scattered, so it brought together Unión Deportiva Güímar and Club Deportivo Los Ángeles as Atlético Unión Güímar . The senior side had begun as Club Deportivo Güímar in 1932 and took the Unión Deportiva name in 1942. The merged club reached the Tercera División in 2017 and stayed four seasons before relegation in 2021. It now plays in the Interinsular Preferente.
The one fixture with its own name is the "Derbi del Valle" against Club Deportivo Candela, from neighbouring Candelaria. Fans of Los Guimareños, in white and blue, watch home games at the Estadio Municipal de Tasagaya, which holds about 3,500. The ground is also known as "Pepe Ramos".
