Hertha Berlin Women

In May 2015, a team wearing the name "Hertha-Frauen" walked out in a DFB-Pokal final against VfL Wolfsburg and lost. The shirts said Hertha, but the club behind them was 1. FC Lübars, which had carried the Hertha BSC name under a partnership running from 2009 to 2016 and had already won the Berlin championship twice and the Berlin Cup once during that stretch. Hertha BSC itself had no women's team of its own — the record belonged to Lübars alone.

That changed in November 2022, when Hertha BSC members voted at a general meeting to form the club's own women's department. Sofian Chahed had been named to lead the project the previous month, and the section began operating in July 2023 through a partial merger: Hertha took over 1. FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf's Regionalliga Nordost side along with its U17 and U15 squads. It was, by the club's own reckoning, the last of Germany's former national champions to set up a women's team.

The new side spent its first season, 2023/24, in the Regionalliga Nordost, the third tier, and was promoted into the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga in 2026. No major national title sits in this team's own history yet — the Berlin titles and the Wolfsburg final all belong to the years before the section existed. Hertha's women play at the Stadion auf dem Wurfplatz in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Prenzlauer Berg, a 5,400-seat ground quite apart from the Olympiastadion the men's side calls home, and they wear the same blue-and-white badge as the rest of the club.

Wolfsburg remains the name attached to the one final anyone associates with "Hertha-Frauen," even if the players who lost it never wore Hertha's own colours.
