Kaluga

The route to a first professional title, in 2023, ran through Group 3 of the Second League's "B" division — Kaluga topped it and earned promotion to Division A. It sits above a best-ever finish of fifth in the Central zone of the Second Division back in 2012/13, a season that also carried the club into the last 32 of the Russian Cup, repeated again in 2016/17.

The badge traces back to 2002 and a club called MiK — "We're from Kaluga" — which spent its amateur years working through regional football: champions of Kaluga Oblast in 2006 and 2008, holders of the regional cup the same two years, and city champions in 2006. By 2009 it had taken the LFL amateur championship for the Chernozemye zone and, in successive seasons, the corresponding amateur cup. Professional status and the name Kaluga arrived on 18 December 2009. The nickname Kosmonavty follows the city itself — Konstantin Tsiolkovsky worked there, and Kaluga has carried the label "cradle of cosmonautics" ever since. Home games are played at Orbita.

Dmitry Baranov is the name attached to the club longer than any other — more than two decades on the books across the MiK and Lokomotiv years, captain. Kaluga has also served as a staging post for players who went on to bigger leagues: Nikolai Kalinsky came through between 2013 and 2015 before moving up to Nizhny Novgorod's top-flight side, and Sergei Volkov, who started out in the city's Smena academy and at Lokomotiv, built a career at Amkar Perm that ran to 232 appearances.
