Borlänge is a city in Dalarna County, Sweden. The sports club Kvarnsvedens IK was formed in 1977 as its own section within the multi-sport association.

The team spent its early decades working through the lower divisions, was shut down between 1995 and 1997, and returned to build back up from there. The rise took until 2015, when Kvarnsvedens IK won Elitettan, the second tier, and earned a first-ever place in Damallsvenskan, Sweden's top flight, for 2016. Jonas Björkgren managed the side through that promotion and the two seasons that followed. The debut season ended in ninth place; the second, 2017, ended in relegation after an 11th-place finish — but not before Tabitha Chawinga, the Malawian forward on the books that year, top-scored the entire division with 26 goals and was named its forward of the year. Julia Roddar, Lova Lundin and the American defender Bryane Heaberlin also wore the shirt during that top-flight spell.

Home matches are played at Ljungbergsplanen, part of the Kvarnsvedens IP sports complex.
