Lam Dong

Lâm Viên Stadium holds 3,500 people.

The team traces back to a predecessor side from 1979, before taking its present form in 1990. Its best years came early: third place in the V.League 1 in 1997 remains the highest finish in the club's history. No league title or national cup has followed.

What has followed instead is a long fight simply to stay in the top tiers. In 2005, Lam Dong beat Quân Khu 7 on penalties, 8-7 after twelve rounds, to return to the First Division. In 2011, they finished runners-up in the Second Division, earning promotion again.

Individual careers have occasionally passed through Da Lat and left more of a mark than the club's results did. Dio Preye, a Nigerian defender who played there in 2006 and 2007, was later naturalised as Hoàng Vissai. Andre Clennon, a Jamaican international, played for Lam Dong in 2012.

For all the promotions won on penalties and play-off nights, a national title has never come, and the third-place finish from 1997 still stands as the closest the Highland Whirlwind has got to one.
