FC Langenthal has used the ground for as long as anyone connected with the club can recall, and nothing in its history suggests the team ever looked elsewhere.

The club dates to 31 July 1902, making it one of the older footballing names in the Oberaargau region of canton Bern, and it is still described locally as an Oberaargauer Traditionsklub — a club that belongs to the area as much as the area belongs to it. The website carries the line "Üsi Stadt. Üse Verein. Üsi Heimat" — Our town. Our club. Our home — which reads less like a slogan and more like a plain statement of how the place sees itself.

Langenthal now play in the 1. Liga Classic, the fourth tier of Swiss football, a level that has kept the club's ambitions modest and its identity intact. The colours are yellow and blue, and supporters know the team simply as Die Gelb-Blauen — the Yellow-Blues — a name drawn straight from the kit rather than invented for effect.

Among the players to have worn those colours, one stands out for where he came from rather than where he ended up: Dariusz Skrzypczak, a Polish midfielder who arrived at Rankmatte having already played in the Ekstraklasa for Lech Poznań and in Switzerland's own top flight with FC Aarau, and who capped that with appearances for the Polish national side.
