Lidingö Women

Nobody at the club puts a name to the woman who took Lidingö Women into Damallsvenskan in 1996, and that season has come down as a set of results rather than a story: bottom of the table, straight back down.

The team sits inside IFK Lidingö FK, a multi-sport club on the island east of Stockholm. When the women's section itself was formed is not recorded in any form worth repeating; what is certain is that by the mid-1990s it was strong enough to reach the highest league in the country, and that it has played in the lower divisions since.

Lidingövallen is the home ground, and it is not only a football venue — the running track around the pitch is the first thing a visitor notices. The rebuild finished in September 2021 left a playing surface of 105x65 metres, full size, with room for around 2,000 spectators. Athletics and football share the place, which is also where the blue-and-white IFK kit turns up in more than one sport.

The fixtures that carry the most edge are against Spånga IS Women and Gamla Upsala Women, opponents who keep reappearing in the same divisions and in friendlies between seasons. No name has attached itself to any of those meetings.

The women's team is listed under Våra lag on the club's site alongside the rest of IFK Lidingö's sides, and its work now is division football on the island: getting through a season on a pitch that no longer cuts up, with a promotion place the only thing above it worth chasing.
