«Emerald Boys»
The ground itself, known locally as the MFA Inc. Complex, opened in 2002 with money from FIFA.
The Montserrat Football Association was founded in 1994 and joined CONCACAF the same year, with FIFA membership following in 1996. The "Emerald Boys," named for the island's green hillsides, draw most of their squad from players raised in England with Montserratian family ties.
The team's high point came at the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Montserrat lost all three group games, including a 6–1 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in which Lyle Taylor scored the team's only goal of the campaign. It did not last: a last-place finish in League B saw Montserrat dropped to League C for the following season.
Where Montserrat has never struggled is against the British Virgin Islands, the other small British territory in the region with which it shares an occasional derby.
