Mutschellen

Nobody set out to build a football institution in Berikon. Nine men gathered in a restaurant called Sternen on 9 October 1970 and put together a village side for the commune of Rudolfstetten, nothing more ambitious than that. The name only caught up with the ambition decades later: in June 2008, with the club long since drawing players from across the wider area rather than one parish, it became FC Mutschellen, a name that belonged to the region rather than a single address.

What that region built is now the largest football association in the canton of Aargau by team count, with 22 youth sides and seven adult teams running out of the Sportanlage Burkertsmatt in Widen. The trophy cabinet is thin by design rather than accident — this is a feeder club, not a hunter of silverware — which makes 2019 and 2021 stand out. The Aargauer Cup arrived first, then, in the 2020/21 season, the 2. Liga AFV title, a result that sent Mutschellen into the 2. Liga Interregional for the first time in its history.

That step up brought a harder cup draw and results to match: a 0:3 exit to Stade Nyonnais in 2019, another 0:3 against FC Concordia Basel two years later, then a 0:4 loss to FC Staad in the next round. Staying in that division became the job description for Jürgen Seeberger, a German coach with Super League and 2. Bundesliga experience, brought in during October 2024 specifically to keep the team up. He did, and left in June 2025 once the job was done, handing over to a 30-year-old successor who had played for GSV, Eintracht and Everton.

The cup draw has not got any kinder. In the 2025/26 first round, on 30 August 2025, Mutschellen were paired with FC Zürich and lost 0:15.
