Newbuildings United

Newbuildings United arrived in 1991, born of a simple need for a local team in County Londonderry. The community had already secured a pitch at Prehen Park. The ground is small, holding just 400 spectators, but it has been the anchor for the side ever since. What there is, is consistency. For a decade, the team played in the shadows of the more established clubs in Northern Ireland. They wore sky blue shirts and navy shorts, colours that stood out against the grey skies of the North West. The turning point came when they began to string together results in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League. They took the title in 2011, held it in 2012, and secured it again in 2013. It was not a dynasty built on star players, but on a group that sat deep and soaked it up , grinding out victories in a league that demanded physical endurance. The success continued into the cup competitions, culminating in a North West Senior Cup win in 2014. The club remains an amateur side. They do not have an official website, relying instead on social media to keep the local fans informed. The lack of professional infrastructure does not seem to weigh on them. In 2023, they claimed another league title, this time in the Ballymena & Provincial League, proving that the previous success was not a fluke. The rivalry with Institute F.C. is the most intense chapter in their modern history. The history between them adds an edge to every encounter, regardless of the current league table.
