Limavady United went into the summer of 2026 as champions of the NIFL Championship (B Division), a title the club had not held since 1993. The gap between those two triumphs runs to more than three decades, and it says something about a club that has spent most of its life at intermediate level, in a town on the River Roe rather than in Belfast.

The name traces to a merger in 1884, when Limavady Alexander joined with Wanderers to form Limavady F.C.; the club took its current name in the early 1920s. That earlier incarnation reached the Irish Cup final twice, in 1885 and 1886, losing both times to Distillery — the closest the town has come to the senior game's biggest prize.

Home games are played at The Showgrounds on Rathmore Road, a ground with room for 524 spectators. The stand dates to the mid-1990s, built when the club needed to meet the requirements of senior football, and the site was fenced off in the early 1980s. Nothing on that scale has been added since.

Domestic silverware has come mostly through the county and intermediate competitions: six County Londonderry Cups, the last in 2023–24, and ten Craig Memorial Cups, a run stretching from the 1990s through to 2024. The Irish Intermediate Cup has been won three times, most recently in 2016–17, the same season the club also lifted the Premier Intermediate League title — a double repeated, in league form at least, when they won the Premier Intermediate League again in 2023–24.

The team plays in royal blue with white trim, in yellow away from home, and answers to two nicknames: the Roesiders, after the river that runs through the town, and simply the Lims. Bangor sit among the current rivals on the fixture list. But it is the man who lifted the Championship trophy in 2026 that supporters in Limavady will point to first when the club's name comes up — the manager who took a team from the intermediate ranks back to a league position it had not occupied in over thirty years.
