Jordi Pitarque wore number 7 for CF Reus Deportiu across two seasons, 2009 to 2010, and when the club later retired that shirt in his honour. The team traces back to 1909, when Club Deportivo de Reus formed from the wreckage of an earlier side, Reus Sport Club. In 1917 it merged with Club Velocipedista and SC Olímpia to become a multi-sport body called Reus Deportiu, and only in 1951 did the football section break away to take the name Club de Futbol Reus Deportiu, leaving the parent organisation to hockey and its other sections.

Home matches were played at the Estadi Municipal de Reus, holding around 4,700. The team wore red and black and answered to Ganxets, a nod to the local hazelnut, though supporters also knew it as La avellana mecánica — the mechanical hazelnut. Its fiercest rival sat just down the road at Gimnàstic de Tarragona, and their meetings were known as the Derbi del Camp de Tarragona.

The club's best football came late. It won the Tercera División in 1980/81 and again in 2006/07, then took the Segunda División B group title in 2015/16. Further back, it had already been champion of the Spanish amateur competition in 1976.

None of it outlasted the finances. On 20 October 2020, a court ordered the club's liquidation over debts exceeding €9m, closing the book after 111 years. Its youth teams regrouped in 2022 under a new name, Reus FC Reddis.
