Sant Andreu

Sant Andreu's story begins with two small clubs in the district north of Barcelona, Zeta FC and Andresense FC, joining forces in January 1909 to form FC Andreuenc. In 1911 a dispute split the membership, and the breakaway group set up FC Avenç. It took another sixteen years and a further round of local mergers — L'Avenç del Sport, FC Andreuenc and Esport Ciclista Andreuenc folding into one body in 1925 — before Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu took the shape that carries the name today.

From 1939 the Catalan name gave way to Club Deportivo San Andrés, and later Unión Deportiva San Andrés, until 1980 restored Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu. That same stretch had already seen the club promoted to the Segunda División in 1950, a rise repeated in 1980 once the Catalan identity was back in place. In 2009 the club converted into a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva, formalising itself as Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu, S.A.

The shirt is yellow with the four red bars of the Catalan senyera, paired with black shorts. Local rivalry runs through fixtures against CE Europa, matches known in the neighbourhood as the Derbi de Barcelona, or simply the derby of the Poble against the Vila.

Camp Municipal Narcís Sala, home since 1970 and holding 6,563, is the venue for the club's best modern moment: the 2013 Copa RFEF, sealed with a 4-0 win over La Hoya Lorca in the final. Further back, forward Joan Coca made his mark in the years just after the First World War, playing for the Avenç de l'Sport side between 1915 and 1922 and earning a Catalonia call-up in 1920, scoring in that appearance — a reminder of how far back the shirt he wore traces to those first two clubs that merged on a January day in 1909.
