Real Madrid Castilla benches Jorge Cestero
The midfielder missed Castilla's 2-1 loss to Alcorcon after a dispute with coach Julian Lopez de Lerma, who confirmed the decision but not the reason.
Jorge Cestero was left out of the Castilla squad for the 2-1 defeat to Alcorcon after a disagreement with manager Julian Lopez de Lerma the previous week, according to MARCA.
The midfielder had already been an unused substitute against Sant Andreu, and the friction that followed prompted the club to step in. Lopez de Lerma confirmed the absence was a coaching decision but declined to detail the reason behind it.
Speaking about the makeup of the squad, the Castilla coach set out his approach to team selection this season.
«Estamos en una vertiente formativa, queremos que todos los jugadores puedan mostrarse, competir y estar con el equipo. Jorge es y será un jugador muy importante para nosotros esta temporada».
Cestero, a midfielder who has represented Real Madrid's U19 side since April 2026 without yet scoring, had started the season training with Mourinho's first-team squad during pre-season before returning to Castilla once the senior group reached full fitness.
It remains unclear how long the punishment will run. Castilla face Atletico Madrileno in the derby at the Di Stefano this Friday at 21:15, and whether Cestero returns to the matchday squad will be the first test of whether the matter is fully resolved.
