Riopretano

São José do Rio Preto already had a football club before Riopretano existed, and that is what gives the newcomer its rivalry. América Futebol Clube, known locally as Mequinha, has the city to itself no longer, and the fixture between the two already carries a name, the dérbi de São José do Rio Preto, even though one side of it has barely played a match.

Riopretano settled on red, black and white for its colours, a nod to the city's own flag, and on Galo da Serra for a nickname, borrowing the rooster from Atlético Mineiro rather than inventing an animal of its own. Its ground, Estádio Anísio Haddad, carries a nickname of its own too, Rio Pretão.

There are no honours to point to yet, because there has barely been time to win any. The paperwork that created Riopretano Futebol Clube is dated March 5, 2025, but the club was not shown to the public until March 23, 2026, at a presentation held at the Hilton Garden Inn. Its first competitive match came on April 17, 2026, against Santa Fé FC in the Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão Sub-23, the competition known as the Bezinha, the game that turned a company registration into a football club.
