The under-23 side carries the senior team's identity into age-group competition, right down to the nicknames — Falcons and True Parrots Team among them — and the yellow-and-green kit drawn from the national flag, yellow shirts and green shorts at home, reversed on the road.

The side plays its football for a place in the CAF U23 Cup of Nations. That gap showed in June 2022, when the team lost 0-10 to Nigeria U23, and again in a 0-3 defeat to Equatorial Guinea U23.

Home games are played at the Estádio Nacional 12 de Julho, which opened in 1950 and took its current name in 2002, holding 6,500 spectators.
