Sasel

In October 2023, TSV Sasel won the Oberliga Hamburg and, during the celebrations on Majorca, managed to lose the trophy itself — the championship plate turned up again only after the story had already made the rounds on German radio. It was the kind of episode that put a fifth-tier Hamburg club briefly in front of a national audience that had never heard of it.

The club plays out of Alfred-Mager-Stadion in the Sasel district, a ground that holds 2,500 on an artificial pitch. TSV Sasel itself traces back to 1925, though the name in use today only settled in 1935, when SV Sasel merged with FTSV Sasel.

Wikipedia lists two honours before the 2023 title: a Verbandsliga Hamburg championship in 2005, which the club chose not to convert into promotion because of licensing problems, and two runner-up finishes in the Hamburger Pokal, losing 1-5 to Eintracht Norderstedt in 2020 and 0-1 to FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen in 2023. The team turns out in blue, white and red.

Beyond the Majorca story, little of TSV Sasel travels past Hamburg's own leagues — no European runs, no recognised local rivalry on record, nothing to suggest ambitions past the Oberliga.
