Alfred-Mager-Stadion

The name change is the biography here: for most of its life this was simply the Sportplatz Parkweg, one of the countless municipal pitches that dot Hamburg's Wandsbek borough. On 11 August 2013 TSV Sasel reopened it as the Alfred-Mager-Stadion, honouring the man who had chaired the club from 1967 to 2012 — forty-five years at the helm, which is closer to a life sentence than a committee post.

The renaming coincided with the ground's one real technical upgrade: the old gravel pitch, a Grandplatz in the German municipal-sport idiom, gave way to artificial turf, and viewing rails went up along the north and east sides. Neither addition points to ambitions beyond the fifth tier — TSV Sasel plays its football in the Oberliga Hamburg, and the ground also serves the club's reserve sides, which is the ordinary lot of a 2,500-capacity venue tucked into a residential corner of Sasel.

There is no separate stadium authority or dedicated website; anything official runs through the club's own pages, which fits a ground that has stayed exactly what it was built to be — a neighbourhood pitch that happened to acquire a name worth keeping.
