Sk St. Johann

The Tiroler Landespokal has come to St. Johann in Tirol only once, in 1988, when the club beat SK Zell/Ziller in the final and earned a place in the Austrian Cup the following season. It remains the high point of a history spent almost entirely outside the professional pyramid.

SK St. Johann in Tirol was founded on 21 June 1954. Its two seasons in the Tiroler Liga came in 1968/69 and 1969/70. That changed on the final matchday of 2022/23, when a 4:3 win over FC Wacker Innsbruck sent St. Johann up into the Regionalliga Tirol, the fourth tier. The rebuild behind that run traced back to 2019/20, when Roland Springinsfeld took over and overhauled the squad. Three seasons later the club sat second in the Regionalliga Tirol.

The clearest export from the youth set-up is Alexander Hauser, who left for Rangers as a teenager and went on to play for Wacker Innsbruck, Austria Kärnten and Pasching. He returned to St. Johann between 2017 and 2018, first as assistant coach and then in charge of the under-18s, before moving into a coaching career that took him to Red Bull Salzburg, to Al-Ahli for an AFC Champions League Elite win, and in 2026 to Newcastle United as an assistant.

The nearest thing to a rivalry is the derby against FC Kitzbühel. Matches are played in red and green at the Koasastadion, a ground that holds around 1,500 — enough, in St. Johann in Tirol, for a district derby to feel like an occasion.
