Sokol Brezovica

In January 2026, Alex Fojtíček signed for a club. He arrived at Sokol Brezovica from a career that had already taken him far beyond the village pitch at Brezovica nad Torysou, in the Sabinov district of the Prešov region.

The club competes in the 5. liga's northern group and takes its cup football seriously enough to have produced one of the odder weeks of the 2024/25 Slovnaft Cup: a 5:0 win over FK Široké in the first round, in July 2024, followed a month later by a 0:4 defeat to FC Košice. The following summer brought an early exit too, 2:3 to TJ Sokol Brezovička in the preliminary round, before Brezovica drew 2:2 with FK 05 Levoča in the cup this August.

Home matches are played at the Futbalové ihrisko Brezovica, a natural-grass pitch without floodlights or a running track.

The clearest mark the club has left on a table came not from the senior side but from its youth team, the žiaci, who won 19 matches in a row during the 2012/13 season to finish top of the district's highest league — a title the seniors, occupied that same season, could not match.

Vladimír Sudimák has outlasted most of it. He kept goal for Brezovica in that 2012/13 season and somehow finished it as the club's top scorer, with six goals; more than a decade on he was still turning out for the team, doubling as the contact man for cup fixtures, occasionally taking charge as caretaker coach, and sitting on the local council.
