Spartak Plovdiv

In 1963 Spartak Plovdiv finished three points clear of city rivals Botev Plovdiv and won the Bulgarian First League. Todor Diev scored 26 goals that season, and the ground in the Kichuk Parizh district now carries his name. The title was the high point of a stretch in which Spartak spent 17 seasons in the top flight across the 1950s and 1960s. It followed the Bulgarian Cup, which they won in 1958 by beating Minyor Pernik in the final.

The championship took them into the European Cup in 1963–64, where they were drawn against Partizani Tirana and PSV Eindhoven. The next year they reached the final of the Balkans Cup and lost to Rapid București. In the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1966–67 they were paired with Benfica. Later European outings were rarer, and the 1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup was the last.

The 21st century was harder. In 2016 the senior team folded because of financial difficulties. It was refounded in 2017 and now plays in the Southeast Third League. The local derby is with Maritsa Plovdiv, known as the "Small City Derby" to set it apart from the "Big City Derby" between Botev and Lokomotiv.

Stadion Todor Diev holds about 3,500 and is being rebuilt for 8,200.
