SS Monopoli 1966

The fixture between the two carries the name of a derby for a reason that runs through the paperwork as much as the map: a Bari club, Liberty, was moved to Monopoli and played there from 2010 to 2012.

The 1966 in the club's name marks a reorganisation, not a beginning. Rinascente Calcio Monopoli had been going since 1958; the rebuild turned it into Associazione Calcio Monopoli, and that is the line the club counts from. What followed was not continuous in any legal sense — bankruptcies and reconstitutions produced Atletico Monopoli, then A.S. Liberty Monopoli, then S.S. MonosPolis, before the present name settled in 2014.

Promotion to Serie C2 in 1978 was settled by the toss of a coin after the play-off, with Gilberti in charge. Mario Russo took the side up to Serie C1 in 1983–84.

The trophies sit lower down. Eccellenza Puglia, the sixth tier, was won in 2004–05 with 102 points. Ten years on came the Coppa Italia Serie D, decided over two legs against Lupa Castelli Romani, the away leg won 1–0.

Home is the Stadio Vito Simone Veneziani, 4,177 seats, all of them seated. The shirts are white and green in stripes, which is where Biancoverdi comes from.

One of the first signings after the 1966 rebuild was Lino Brunetti, who had played in Serie A and later returned to the club as its president.
