Sambiase

Vigor Lamezia and Sambiase, the two rival clubs of the same city, were merged into a single side in 2021, and it was the newcomer, F.C. Lamezia Terme, that carried the licence forward — Sambiase's own name was left with nothing but the bottom rungs of Calabrian football to rebuild from. When F.C. Lamezia Terme was wound up on 2 November 2023, the yellow-and-red club had already started again from there, buying back the Eccellenza Calabria title from Promosport that summer and taking the name A.S.D. Sambiase 2023.

It was not the first time the club had to start over. Its founding goes back to 1923, and it was dissolved in 1952 after trouble among the crowd at a match against Oppido Mamertina got out of hand. It returned a decade later as S.C. Sambiase and worked its way back to Serie D, first in the 1980s and again from 2009 to 2013.

What silverware there is stays close to home: the Eccellenza Calabria title three times, most recently in 2024, with a Supercoppa Calabria picked up along the way and older regional honours going back to the 1940s. A run to the 2003 Eccellenza play-off final ended in defeat to Avezzano.

The Giallorossi, as the yellow-and-red shirts have the club known, have fielded few players who went on to be remembered elsewhere — Roberto Occhiuzzi wore the shirt in 2009/10 before later coaching Cosenza in Serie B, and captain Francesco Umbaca arrived in 2023/24 with Vicenza and Catanzaro already behind him. The derby that matters most is against Vigor Lamezia, the very club Sambiase was folded into and then separated from again; a second rivalry, with Vibonese, draws its own crowd.

Home games are played at the Stadio Gianni Renda, which holds 1,800, though for the 2024/25 season the ground fell short of Serie D's requirements and Sambiase had to share the Stadio Guido D'Ippolito instead.
