Stade Renard

Derby weekends around Melong come with an edge sharpened by geography. Stade Renard's fiercest rival sits practically next door — Aigle Royal du Moungo, contested as the derby du Moungo — and the club carries a second, no less pointed rivalry with UMS de Loum. All three sides draw from the same stretch of the Moungo department, and matches between them carry the weight of local pride rather than table position.

The club plays as Stade Renard de Melong, in Cameroon's top flight, Elite One. It only reached that level in 2016, after winning the second division, Elite Two. Three years later came the run that still defines the club: a 3-2 win over FAP Yaoundé lifted the Coupe du Cameroun, and later that year Stade Renard beat UMS de Loum 3-1 to claim the Trophée des Champions, its first. The league title itself has stayed out of reach — the closest the club has come is third place, in the 2023/24 season.

Home matches are played at the Stade Municipal de Melong, which holds 1,000 people, a scale that matches the club's standing as a provincial side rather than a capital heavyweight. Players wear green shirts, white shorts and green socks trimmed in white, colours that gave rise to the nickname Les Renards — sometimes written more fully as Les Renards du Moungo in the local press, tying the fox back to the same river valley as its rivals.

No figure is more closely tied to the club than Mathurin Kameni, a Melong-born goalkeeper capped by Cameroon and part of the squad at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, who returned to Stade Renard in 2016, the year of its first promotion to Elite One.
