Super Nova U19

That changed when Super Nova was set up in August 2000 on the basis of Riga Secondary School No. 62. It grew into one of the largest youth systems in the country, and the senior side only joined the league ladder years later, in 2017.

The academy has produced the club's clearest measure of success. In 2013 its under-11 side travelled to Sweden and won the Gothia Cup, beating Hammarby IF 6-4 in the final — the first Latvian team at that age group to take the tournament. Ruslans Deružinskis came through those youth ranks between 2019 and 2021 before leaving for FK RFS, where he became a regular scorer and earned a senior call-up for Latvia; he returned to Super Nova in 2025.

The senior team's own path has been slower. The return to the top flight in 2025 produced no great run of form — an eighth-place finish — but it did leave a mark in the record books: 14 draws, more than the club had ever managed in a single season.

Riga has no shortage of clubs for Super Nova to measure itself against — Riga FC, FC RFS, Riga United — but none of those meetings has hardened into a fixture with its own name. The club's colours, blue and yellow, gave it the nickname Yellow Stars.
