Świt Skolwin

Skolwin sits at the northern edge of Szczecin, past the shipyard cranes, where the city thins out into a district built around a paper mill. The Szczecin paper works — Szczecińskie Zakłady Papiernicze "Skolwin" — put its name to a sports club on 28 February 1952, and for the next four decades the football team belonged to the factory the way the housing and the canteen did. When that arrangement ended, the club became a neighbourhood one in 1996, taking the name it still carries.

The ground on Stołczyńska went up in the 1950s and holds 2,000. It has never needed to be more than that, and for most of the club's life nobody outside northern Szczecin had reason to look at it.

Two seasons changed that. In 2020/21 Świt Skolwin knocked Lechia Zielona Góra out of the Polish Cup 4:1 and drew Cracovia in the last 32, losing 0:1. A year later they came through a penalty shoot-out against Wisłoka Dębica, 7:6, and were paired with Legia Warsaw. That tie, again decided by a single goal, was the largest sporting occasion this part of the city has staged.

The white-and-blue side had been building towards something before the cup runs. They finished second in the third division, group II, in 2017/18 and again in 2020/21, and took the group in 2024.

The captain through the Legia period was Szymon Kapelusz, the face of a team that spent those weeks being photographed rather than ignored. Alongside him, Paweł Krawiec had been at the club longer than anyone else in that dressing room — the one player for whom the Legia match was simply the latest of several hundred afternoons on Stołczyńska.
