Tanzania Under-23

The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, in Dar es Salaam, is where the Tanzania under-23 side takes its matches.

The team, known as Manyara Stars, first took shape in 2011, when it entered qualifying for the London Olympics against Cameroon in March and then travelled to Maputo that September for the All-Africa Games.

In Ethiopia in July 2021, Tanzania went through the CECAFA Under-23 Challenge Cup unbeaten, beat South Sudan 1-0 in the semi-final, and then ground out a goalless final against Burundi that went all the way to penalties, won 6-5. Kim Poulsen was in charge that summer.

There was already an Olympic berth behind them by then, Tokyo 2020 having been reached before that regional final was played.

Tanzania have entered qualifying for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations more than once, drawing 1-1 with Nigeria in the push for the 2023 edition, but a place in the finals themselves has never followed.
