Tshwane University Women

Six titles in a row is not a common line on a university team's record, but that is what Tshwane University of Technology built between 2014 and 2019, winning the Women's Varsity Football championship each season after finishing runner-up in the first year it entered, 2013. That same year the club had already announced itself locally, beating Vaal University of Technology 5–1 to take the University Sport South Africa Gauteng title in its debut season. In 2018 it went further still, becoming the first university side to win the Sasol League National Championship, and followed that the next year by lifting the inaugural Thembi Kgatlana Tournament.

The step up to senior football brought a different kind of result. In the SAFA Women's League, the professional Super League Women, the club finished runners-up in 2019–20 and again in 2021. In 2023 the setup changed shape when Tshwane University of Technology entered a partnership with SuperSport United, and the side has since competed as TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies FC — Matsatsantsa being a Setswana word for "the red ones," which sits closely with the club's own nickname, The Red Army .

Pretoria gave the club more than a home ground. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies play across the same city, and matches between the two are known as the Tshwane Derby.

The run of six straight Varsity Football titles remains the number that defines the club's university era.
