Tus Hordel

Stadion Hordeler Heide sits in the Hordel district of Bochum, the only ground DJK TuS Hordel has ever called home, tucked into the same neighbourhood that gives the club its name.

The club began there in 1911, as the sports section of a Catholic youth association, and joined the DJK federation, Deutsche Jugendkraft, in 1920. Nazi authorities shut it down in 1934 over its Catholic ties. It re-formed in 1947, though football itself did not return until 1960. By 1968 the club had left DJK altogether for the Westphalian football association, a move made for a more stable place in the league system.

Promotions carried it up through the following decades — Bezirksliga in 1987, Landesliga in 1992, Verbandsliga in 1994 — until a group title in the 1995/96 Verbandsliga Westfalen lifted TuS Hordel into the Oberliga Westfalen, then the fourth tier, where it stayed five seasons. A relegation from the Verbandsliga in 2007 was answered in 2010 with promotion to the Westfalenliga, the same year the club won the Kreispokal Bochum, beating SG Wattenscheid 09 2:0 in the final.

That Westfalenliga run lasted until relegation in 2023, but TuS Hordel won an immediate route back for 2024/25 and, through the autumn of 2025/26, lead the table from a ground that holds just 5,000.
