Tyumen

Zenit came to Tyumen in the 2013/14 Russian Cup. The home side, then in the Second Division, beat them 2:0 in the last thirty-two.

The team traces itself to 1961, when it took the field as Geolog. Under that name it had its best run: runner-up in the Soviet Second League final in 1984, beating Tekstilshchik of Ivanovo 4:0. Two years later it went one better, winning its Second League zone outright and taking the RSFSR championship. The names changed after that — Neftyanik, Dinamo-Gazovik — and under Dinamo-Gazovik the club twice won the Zone East of the First League, in 1993 and 1996, each time earning a place in Russia's top flight. It never did much there; 12th place in 1994 remains the high point.

Two players carry the club's reputation for developing forwards who went elsewhere to win things. Viktor Leonenko scored 26 goals in 93 games between 1988 and 1991 before becoming Ukraine's champion and its footballer of the year; Alexander Prizetko followed a similar path in the mid-1990s. More recently it was Khasan Mamtov who did the scoring, 63 goals in 137 appearances from 2013 to 2017, good enough to be named the FNL's best forward in 2015/16 — the spell that also brought the club back up through the Second Division's Ural-Volga zone in 2013/14.

Now known simply as Tyumen, the Black and Whites play their home matches at the Geolog stadium, and their fixture against Tobol of Tobolsk still draws the city out — the derby both sides call, without much argument, the most important two points on the calendar. The ground holds 13,057.
