Vana Hea Puur

Tallinn has room in its football calendar for clubs that will never fill a stadium, and Vana Hea Puur is one of them: an amateur side that plays in the Rahvaliiga, the amateur league organised by the Estonian Football Association, several tiers below the professional game the capital is better known for internationally.

There is no ground to speak of. The club borrows pitches as it needs them, among them Wismari Staadion and Viimsi staadion, and turns up wherever a fixture places it. No colours, no badge, no website have ever been attached to the name — the sort of detail that matters for a club built around a league card rather than a brand. Match protocols place the side active from at least 2018, currently in the Rahvaliiga's B-tasand division. Its name, "The Old Good Cage," carries none of the usual civic or industrial reference points clubs tend to draw their names from.

The club's contact with the professional game has come almost entirely through the Estonian Cup, and it has gone the way such meetings usually do for an amateur side drawn against full-time opposition. JK Tallinna Kalev put twenty past them without reply in 2023; FC Vastseliina Tannem won 5-0 in 2024; Narva Trans scored ten without conceding in a 2026 tie. None of that is failure in any meaningful sense — it is what the cup draw does to clubs at this level, and Vana Hea Puur has turned up for it each time rather than scratching.

Some lists still credit the club with twelve Meistriliiga titles and six Estonian Cups, a history that in fact belongs to JK Tallinna Kalev under a name it once carried. Vana Hea Puur has none of that. What it has is a listed representative, Meelis Ombler, and a cup scoreline of 0-35 across three matches against professional opposition.
